July Book Club - Destined to Witness

In July we met at the home of Jan Collins to discuss “Destined to Witness: Growing Up Black in Nazi Germany” by Hans J. Massaquoi. This autobiographical work impressed not for the writing but for the story: the son of a Liberian diplomat and a German woman, Massaquoi survived through talent, determination and phenomenal luck. But the book in fact also covers more of his life, which led us to feel it should have had a different title to indicate the larger scope of his multi-year struggle to find his place in the world.

Thank you to Jan for hosting us.
