On December 3rd, alumnae convened at the home of Laurie Daniels '81 for our 10th Annual Holiday Tea and Optional Cookie Exchange. We enjoyed each other’s delicious creations, and had a wonderful time catching up with Smithies of all ages. At the end of the party, everyone left with recipes and containers full of yummy cookies to bring home.
Much thanks to Laurie Daniels '81 for coordinating the event!
A group of alumnae gathered at the home of Fatima Hanif ’89 on Sunday, November 5th for our annual winter care package party. Following this year’s theme of "Rest and Relaxation”, we assembled a variety of stationery, cosmetics, and snacks to help our current students unwind before their finals. We enjoyed yummy appetizers and reminisced fondly on the past care packages we'd received during our time at Smith.
Much thanks to Fatima Hanif ’89 and Melanie Herscher ’14 for coordinating the event!
On October 21st, a group of alumnae and some of their family members met at the Picchetti Ranch Preserve in Cupertino to celebrate Mountain Day with a scenic hike. We enjoyed the sunny weather, wonderful company, and beautiful view. Afterwards, we enjoyed a picnic by the winery, complete with apple cider and the company of a wandering peacock.
Many thanks to Nisha Thatte-Potter ’88 for coordinating the event!
We would like to thank our board members, event hostesses and coordinators, and other volunteers for their generous donations of time, talents, and hospitality during the past year. Sara Biyabani, Mindy Chu, Linda Cooperman, Marylou Cronin, Laurie Daniels, Jean Davidson, Sidnie Davis, Nancy Hawes, Melanie Herscher, Adia Hoag, Stannie Holt, Jennifer Bock Hughes, Lori Kahn, Felice Kong, Diana McDonough, Sherry Palacios, Erika Rodriguez, Margaret Rushing, Laura Selznick, Sally Smith, Nisha Thatte-Potter, Isabel Walker, and Michelle Wu all helped make this a fun year for our members. They have enabled the Club to thrive and supported deeper connections among Smith alumnae throughout the Peninsula. We know that many nonprofit organizations compete for your volunteer hours and hospitality, and we are very grateful that you chose to support our Club!
Admissions’ recruiting is one of the most important efforts the Club makes on behalf of Smith. It takes many volunteers to interview and follow up with prospective students, host college fair booths, host or attend our recruiting events, and sponsor book awards. Special thanks go to the following alumnae who helped in one or more of these ways: Lesli Agcaoili, Mindy Chu, Marylou Cronin, Sidnie Davis, Cara Dodge, Donna Dong, Nancy Erba, Katie Gabel, Melanie Herscher, Adia Hoag, Lori Kahn, Hanna Lauritzen, Julia Wells Moran, Aisha Piracha-Zakariya, Erika Rodriguez, Margaret Rushing, Uzuri Sims, Jane Su, Florina Voica, and Hope Wu.
We also thank current Smithies Tiphanie Chow, Morgan Dolmatch, Jessica Feinberg, and Emily Jiaqian Zhou for taking the time to attend Club recruiting events and share their college experiences with prospective students and their parents. Their up-to-date information is very helpful in the admissions process!
Finally, we would like to thank all 83 Club members for paying their annual dues, which provide the financial resources needed to support our activities. The Club has received $2,260 in additional charitable donations from the following members this year: Maria Allo, Emily Amico, Lucy Baldwin, Louise Beattie, Anne Halsey Bertenthal, Joan Bose, Katharine Boshkoff, Barbara Campbell, Martha Clayton, Martha Coddington, Chris Conklin, Lindsey Constantz, Linda Cooperman, Marylou Cronin, Laurie Daniels, Jean Davidson, Sidnie Davis, Sally Erickson, Susan Evans, Blair Fingerhut, Karen Fisher, Amy Gardner, Susan Garratt, Fatima Hanif, Marilyn Higuera, Jennifer Bock Hughes, Heather Hyde, Lori Kahn, Arlene Klainer, Anita Seipp Marmaduke, Shana Nelson Middler, Sarah Ngola, Jean Parmelee, April Pinney, Aisha Piracha-Zakariya, Sarah Rivers, Peggy Rossi, Margaret Rushing, Kimberly Joy Silver, Alice Smith, Karen Sullivan, Susan Termohlen, Nisha Thatte-Potter, Martha Tolles, Anne Townsager, and Michelle Wu. We greatly appreciate your generous support! The Club can offer many more activities because of these additional funds.
On a beautiful summer Sunday, 20 club members gathered at the lovely home of Sara Biyabani '84 in Saratoga for our annual meeting and potluck party. The food that everyone brought was delicious, and the company was even better. We elected the new Board members and discussed the year ahead, which we hope will be just as wonderful as the last, full of activities and time spent with one another and new alumnae. Guests ranged from alumnae who graduated decades ago to current students at Smith who will be heading back to Northampton soon!
Summer time means interns here in the Silicon Valley! We celebrated the intern/summer season with our second annual lunch and movie day. We gathered with 15 recent graduates, recent alumnae, and interns from NASA and Google for a pizza lunch in Mountain View, followed by the latest Spiderman film which gained a lot of thumbs-up (thanks in part to teeshirt shoutouts in the movie to both NASA and Sylvia Plath)! We are especially excited that attendance at this event grew 3x between last year and this year. We are excited to see so many Smithies interning and starting their careers here in the Valley, and of course making time for Smith Club activities!
You are invited to join us for the Club’s annual meeting and potluck (for alumnae only) on Sunday, August 20, from 5 – 7 pm. It will be hosted at the home of Sara Biyabani ’84 in Saratoga. The exact address will be emailed to you after your RSVP is received.
Club members should RSVP to the Evite by August 13 and other alumnae may RSVP by August 13 to Sidnie Davis ’08 at email@example.com or (510) 621-9012. RSVP only if you WILL be attending the event. Responses by email are preferred. Please mention which dish you would like to bring so we can balance the menu. We will need hors d’oeuvres, entrées, salads, vegetables, and dessert. The Club will provide beverages.
Please remember that this is an OUTDOOR event and dress accordingly. We look forward to seeing you there!
On June 25th, alumnae got together at the home of Jean Davidson '73 to kick off the summer with our returning students and visiting NASA interns at our annual Summer Tea. We had an amazing turnout of both current students and alumnae alike! We enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres and got to know the student interns better.
We gathered a group of alumnae for a community service project very fitting of Mother's day. We collaborated with a local organization called Loved Twice that collects gently used baby clothing and assembled boxes consisting of things every family can use in the first year of their child's life. We'll be delivering the boxes to a local hospital that will then distribute to local families. We had a great time sorting and packing boxes, chatting, and ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the cute, tiny socks.
WELCOME BACK SUMMER TEA
HOST: Smith College Club of the Peninsula
WHEN: Sunday, June 25, from 2 – 4 PM
WHERE: The Davidson Residence, 47 Linda Vista Avenue, Atherton
Please join us on Sunday, June 25, from 2 to 4 pm to kick off the summer with local Smithies. Alumnae, current students, and incoming students are invited to this early summer party. It's a great chance to gather with old friends, get to know new and current students, and welcome the class of 2017 to the ranks of alumnae. This is a popular event each year.
Jean Davidson '73 has kindly opened her home and garden to the Smith Club for tea. Given the recent hot weather, the house will be air-conditioned for those wanting to escape the heat. Though there is shade available on the patio, we suggest that you bring sunglasses and sunscreen if you prefer to be outside. We would love to have all of you there the entire time, but we understand busy schedules. Feel free to drop by and leave as your schedule permits.
RSVP by June 20 to Evite if you are a Club member and otherwise to firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can prepare enough food.
It's always fun to enjoy good company on a summer day with a cool drink in your hand. We hope to see you there!
